SHAYNA JOHNSON
Shayna hails from South Florida and is a first-generation Jamaican American. Her passion for education began at an early age when she was exposed to education inequality and social injustices within her local community. She attended Spelman College, where her passion for education grew through her volunteer work with Partnership Against Domestic Violence, Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority, and Atlanta Public Schools. In 2011, Shayna graduated as class salutatorian and summa cum laude with a B.A. in Economics and concentrations in Management and Spanish.
After graduating, Shayna began a successful career at McMaster-Carr Supply, a private industrial supply company, in Atlanta. She worked in a number of operations and general management roles, eventually overseeing the company’s largest and most efficient Sales operation and spearheading diversity and inclusion initiatives. Shayna also brought her operations experience and passion for education to her roles as a board member at Latin Grammar School, curriculum director and teacher at Vinings Church, wellness coach, and tutor. Most recently, Shayna completed a six-month teaching and social impact project in Cartagena, Colombia.
In her free time, Shayna enjoys painting, cooking vegan meals, listening to podcasts and vinyl records, practicing yoga, traveling, and participating in Caribbean carnivals.
